LUNA PAIVA

Luna Paiva (b. 1980, Paris) is a Franco-Argentinian artist. She studied Art History and Archaeology at the Sorbonne and film at NYU, and learned drawing and photography from her father, Rolando Paiva.

UNEARTHED brings together works from different periods of Paiva’s practice, with a new body of works in Terrazzo, titled MOONDUST, at its centre. The title points to something recurrent in her work: unassuming or half-forgotten objects and materials are picked up again and given a different charge through shifts in material, scale and repetition. An old box of coloured pencils, a plastic chair, a plant, a seed — things that might otherwise remain peripheral are brought into focus.

The new terrazzo works continue a series that began with the seed, first developed in clay and glazed ceramic. Terrazzo marks the latest material shift in that progression.
