LUNA PAIVA

ST VINCENTS presents UNEARTHED, the first solo exhibition of Franco-Argentine artist Luna Paiva with the gallery.

UNEARTHED takes its name from an underlying impulse in Paiva's practice: the recovery of the overlooked, discarded or dormant. From familiar objects transformed in bronze to forms emerging through memory and intuition, the exhibition traces the continuities between her earlier sculptures and more recent work on paper, in ceramic and terrazzo.

At its centre is a new body of work in terrazzo, made from fragments of stone and dust left over from the cutting process. Paiva returns to the seed, a recurring motif in her work, and introduces Funghi, a sculptural bench that brings another modest form from the forest floor to an almost architectural scale. Alongside these new works, the exhibition presents her bronze sculptures and Aura and Embossing, two series developed during the pandemic that explore a more intuitive dimension of her practice through drawing and paper relief.
