READ MOREAPPARATUS STUDIO, led by Artistic Director Gabriel Hendifar, uses a narrative-driven approach that blends historical and cultural elements with a modern perspective to explore the relationship between lighting, furniture, and objects in immersive environments. The Studio’s creative output is categorized into Forewords, which define foundational design principles, and Acts, which employ those principles to explore historical reference, narrative and emotion.
The METRONOME SERIES belongs to Apparatus’ ACT II and draws inspiration from the first thirty years of the 20th century, an era of remarkable progress and groundbreaking ideas. Vienna at the turn of the century, Weimar Germany, Art Deco, and Bauhaus all proposed ideas that remain enduringly relevant. The work of Josef Hoffmann and the Weiner Werkstätte, Adolf Loos, Jean Dunand, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann, Pierre Chareau, and Eileen Gray provided aesthetic references that were varied yet connected by a superior level of craftsmanship, an eager exploration of new ideas, and a strong faith in social and technological progress. Nearly a century later, these ideas about the inevitable momentum of progress feel especially timely.
