Brian Thoreen
Elephant Chair
The Elephant Chair by BRIAN THOREEN is made from neoprene rubber and bronze and gets its name from its floppy, rubbery sides but is actually a loose reference to the Elephant Chair by Jacques Ruhlmann. By forcing the rolls of rubber into the curved slot in the seat of the bronze the rubber becomes sturdy enough to form the comfortable curved back of the seat, hugging the user when sat.
Handmade in Mexico, the Elephant Chair is a limited edition piece and also available in black rubber.

READ MOREBRIAN THOREEN is a designer and artist based in Los Angeles and Mexico City, whose work explores the boundaries between art and design. With a focus on material independence and interdependence, he creates functional and nonfunctional pieces using diverse materials such as glass, rubber, wax, and copper. Thoreen co-founded the nomadic gallery MASA and the experimental glassmaking collective VISSIO, expanding his creative horizons. Guided by material, process, and intention, his practice emphasizes thoughtful execution and an appreciation for the tactile qualities of materials. Through a blend of memories, feelings, forms, and playfulness, Thoreen’s work challenges traditional definitions, blurring the lines between art and design.
