The Fudge Chair by TOOGOOD is a friendly yet grand fiberglass armchair. The chair embodies a friendly and inviting design with gentle curved lines and a subtle asymmetry that adds to its traditional and human aesthetic.
Complementing the iconic Roly-Poly collection, the chair’s creative journey began with the exploration of countless clay maquettes, which evolved through meticulous iterations using cardboard models.
To preserve its handmade appearance, a hand-carved wooden pattern was meticulously crafted and used to create a fiberglass mold, intentionally incorporating surface imperfections that celebrate the chair’s origin. Crafted in collaboration with master artisans experienced in shipbuilding, the chair’s form is built by hand-layering loose fiberglass sheets and resin. During the drying process, the resin seeps into the fiberglass over several days.
Once dry, the chair undergoes meticulous hand-sanding to achieve a seamless semi-matte finish, paying special attention to the joins for a flawless appearance. Given the hand made nature of this item it is important to note therefore, that blemishes, imperfections, or irregularities should not be mistaken as flaws but rather celebrated as distinguishing features of these one-of-a-kind handmade items.
In addition to the customary cream and charcoal colors, Toogood introduces two inspired hues: ‘Mallow,’ drawn from one of her favorite jumpers, and ‘Malachite,’ a deep forest green reminiscent of the famed green door of St Ives in Cornwall.
