Apparatus Studio
Starlet Sconce
The Starlet sconce by APPARATUS STUDIO is a multifaceted folly. Suggesting an eclipse, the sconce combines a hand-finished brass armature with a domed shade that is wrapped in tonal suede and satin. The fixture casts a soft sunburst of light, when not electrified, the shade comes into focus, allowing the viewer to meditate on the atmospheric, dynamic relationship between texture and hue.
Handmade in NYC, the Starlet Sconce is available in multiple finishes and is made to order as per your specifications. For inquiries and customizations, please contact us.

READ MOREAPPARATUS STUDIO is a New York design studio led by Artistic Director Gabriel Hendifar, that uses a narrative-driven approach to explore the relationship between lighting, furniture, and objects in immersive environments. The Studio’s creative output is categorized into forewords, which define foundational design principles, and acts, which employ those principles to explore historical reference, narrative and emotion.
The Starlet Sconce belongs to ACT IV which celebrates the playful optimism of human intervention in material object. Exploring a period in which man-made ingenuity and technology elicited delight, the collection draws on forward-looking 1960s cultural touchstones and scientific innovations which coalesce into an atmosphere of wonder. ACT IV negotiates the delicate balance between machine perfection and the human hand, revolving around a highly touched object and the nearly imperceptible hand that creates it. The resulting collection is a complete point of view; its objects serving as artifacts of the mental imprint left by a joyful time in creation and mechanization.
ACT IV is presented in a series of scenes imagined as dioramas of public and private life. Entitled the brief, the muse, the work and the finish, the structure of the scenes evoke the arc of the studio’s creative process. In an era of digital rendering, the presentation celebrates the human hand, traditional production craft and the art of making images.
